About the Role

The Strategic Research Internship provides exposure to the core functions of Corporate Strategy at Petronas. Interns will support the team by conducting comprehensive external environmental scanning, focusing specifically on geopolitical developments. This role involves identifying and tracking key global and regional political trends, hotspots, and emerging signposts that could impact Petronas' strategic positioning and operations. The primary output will be timely summaries and analyses that inform strategic discussions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily and thematic scanning of the external geopolitical environment.
  • Monitor global and regional political developments, hotspots, and emerging signposts.
  • Produce timely summaries and analyses of geopolitical events relevant to Petronas' strategic interests.
  • Assist in compiling and organizing research materials for strategic planning sessions.
  • Support the team in identifying potential risks and opportunities arising from the geopolitical landscape.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in International Relations, Political Science, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information clearly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with proficiency in another major language (e.g., Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Arabic) being advantageous.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with geopolitical analysis frameworks and research methodologies is beneficial.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.
