The Legal Counsel will join a dynamic in‑house legal team supporting Marriott International’s operations across the Asia‑Pacific region. About the Role
As a key member of the legal department in the Asia Pacific, the Legal Counsel will act as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders. The position involves managing a wide range of legal matters related to hospitality operations, real‑estate licensing, corporate transactions, and risk mitigation. Working closely with cross‑functional teams, the counsel will help shape policies that align with the company’s global vision while adhering to regional nuances.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive legal guidance on hotel management, franchise agreements, and licensing arrangements across multiple jurisdictions.
- Assess and mitigate legal risks associated with corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and securities matters.
- Lead the drafting, negotiation, and review of commercial contracts, including supplier agreements and joint‑venture documents.
- Represent the company in litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution processes, coordinating with external counsel where necessary.
- Advise on employment law issues, including labor disputes and compliance with local labor standards.
- Support corporate transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships by conducting due diligence and preparing transaction documents.
- Develop and maintain a robust framework for monitoring legal and regulatory developments in the Asia‑Pacific market.
Requirements
- Qualified attorney with a minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably within the hospitality, real estate, or corporate sector.
- Admission to practice law in at least one jurisdiction in the Asia‑Pacific region.
- Demonstrated expertise in handling complex commercial agreements and regulatory compliance.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret statutes, regulations, and contractual language accurately.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities, capable of influencing senior stakeholders.
- High level of professionalism and discretion when dealing with confidential information.
- Willingness to travel within the region as needed for case support or meetings.
