About the Role

We are seeking a Software Engineer 2 to join a collaborative team that designs, implements, and maintains the core software platforms supporting Illumina’s sequencing instruments and data analysis pipelines. The position offers the chance to work on scalable systems that process massive volumes of genomic data, contribute to cutting‑edge research, and directly advance our commitment to health equity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance production‑grade software in Java, C++, or Python for high‑throughput sequencing workflows.
  • Design and implement micro‑services and APIs that integrate with laboratory instrumentation and cloud‑based analysis tools.
  • Optimize algorithmic performance and resource utilization for large‑scale data processing.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams of scientists, product managers, and engineers to translate scientific requirements into technical specifications.
  • Maintain automated testing frameworks and perform code reviews to ensure robustness and reproducibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience, preferably in a scientific or bioinformatics context.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C++, or Python.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Experience with version control systems, continuous integration pipelines, and test‑driven development.
